چکیده

A marine photosynthetic bacterium (PS88) identified as Rhodovulum sp. with flocculating ability was isolated from the sea sediment mud of a shrimp cultivation farm in Thailand. This bacterium flocculated in glutamate/malate medium during aerobic/dark or anaerobic/light cultivation. The flocculating ability was enhanced with the increase of NaCl concentration to 6% (w/v). Flocculation and growth were promoted by Mg2+ up to 10 mM in culture medium. Kaolin, anionic colloidal particle was flocculated only in the simultaneous presence of extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) derived from bacterial cells, and metal cations. With the advantage of self-flocculation, high density cell cultivation was accomplished by continuous cultivation to 43 g dry matter l–1 with acetate as a substrate consumption at 22.5 g l–1d–1.

Complete Genome Sequence of Rhodovulum sulfidophilum DSM 2351, an Extracellular Nucleic Acid-Producing Bacterium

Rhodovulum sulfidophilum DSM 2351 is the nonsulfur photosynthetic bacterium that efficiently releases nucleic acids into the extracellular milieu, which leads to flocculation. In this study, we determined the complete genome sequence of R. sulfidophilum DSM 2351, which will provide new insights into the mechanism of its unique nucleic acid release.

Extracellular tRNAs of the marine photosynthetic bacterium Rhodovulum sulfidophilum are not aminoacylated.

The marine photosynthetic bacterium Rhodovulum sulfidophilum produces nucleic acids extracellularly. We have identified these extracellular RNAs as fully mature sized tRNAs and fragments of 16S and 23S rRNAs. Most of the tRNAs have mature 3'-terminal CCA sequences. In the present study we found that these extracellular tRNAs were not aminoacylated, although almost all intracellular tRNAs are am...

Transcriptional control of expression of genes for photosynthetic reaction center and light-harvesting proteins in the purple bacterium Rhodovulum sulfidophilum.

The purple photosynthetic bacterium Rhodovulum sulfidophilum synthesizes photosynthetic apparatus even under highly aerated conditions in the dark. To understand the oxygen-independent expression of photosynthetic genes, the expression of the puf operon coding for the light-harvesting 1 and reaction center proteins was analyzed. Northern blot hybridization analysis showed that puf mRNA synthesi...

Rhodovulum mangrovi sp. nov., a phototrophic alphaproteobacterium isolated from a sediment sample of Coringa mangrove forest, India

A novel Gram-staining negative purple non-sulfur bacterium, AK41, was isolated from a sediment sample collected from Coringa mangrove forest, Andhra Pradesh, India. A red-brownish coloured culture was obtained on modified Pfennig medium after enrichment with 2% NaCl and 0.3% pyruvate under 2000 lux of illumination. Individual cell is ovoid-rod shaped and non motile. Bacteriochlorophyll a and ca...

Whole-Genome Sequence of the Purple Photosynthetic Bacterium Rhodovulum sulfidophilum Strain W4

We report the draft genome sequence of the purple photosynthetic bacterium Rhodovulum sulfidophilum. The photosynthesis gene cluster comprises two segments-a unique feature among photosynthesis gene clusters of purple bacteria. The genome information will be useful for further analysis of bacterial photosynthesis.
